We’re singing a song on Monday nights that involves a lot of “nonsense” words at break neck speed. Dad is not really getting them and yet is still enjoying his Monday night experience very much, unlike last term when he went home feeling miserable after almost every rehearsal.
Now, that particular song is not the most difficult thing we are singing so how is he doing this?
On Wednesday afternoons we are singing a song that contains a lot of “dings” and “dongs”. That one he sort of gets…well, the first page anyway and then we turn the page and he just stops. His brain doesn’t want to let him continue forward. How odd. But he very much enjoys his Wednesday afternoons too so YAY.
Actually, he’s finding the songs on Wednesday to be more difficult than the ones on Mondays. Interesting. That ain’t necessarily so.
And he loved the pop-up choir night when I devoted a bunch of time to breathing, creating space by lowering your jaw in the back, stacking your head in alignment with your neck and getting your lips more forward….among other things. He keeps talking about how much he enjoyed the session and that it improved his ability to sing higher notes in particular. Cool!
Now to write in some instructions for his readers theatre part. That’s what I did last term and it worked wonders so here’s hoping…!
Either way you slice it, he’s finding his joy and not allowing depression to take him down.
I stand amazed.
