So Noted Singers & Forte Plus

me, my dad and dementia #74: bits and pieces…

-on the day we were set to perform for the SASHA fundraiser, my Dad came over in the morning to show me his “all black outfit”….a black and white short sleeved golf shirt and a black jacket. (I’ve never seen that golf shirt before in my life by the way.) He wondered where to get black pants at least so that’s good. We actually keep his black “performance” pants and shirt on our side so we brought them to him when it was time to change later.

-3 days after we performed at the Arden, my Dad said “we sang a really long song the other night”…..I’m assuming that since we did 6 pieces in a row, it felt like “a really long song”…..

-my Dad looked up at me during a LOT of the Arden appearance – every single song! Amazing! I was SO happy. He hasn’t done that for years.

-we went out for a brunch buffet on Sunday with our daughter and daughter-in-law to celebrate her new job, and all of us more than ate our fill. My husband always fills plate after plate for my Dad so he doesn’t have to get up. And yet….as soon as we got home, my Dad opened his fridge and we found him making a dried fruit sandwich….um….

-Dad decided to go for a long walk on Monday afternoon….so much for a nap…..and no, he didn’t look up at me once on Monday night rehearsal….dang, so much for my mantra from last week.

-while we’re incredibly pleased that he’s now showering often, we’re not sure he’s actually using the shampoo, which explains why his hair looks the way it does…kinda frizzy and sticking out in all directions….

-I found 3 full tubes of Voltaren beside his bed when he asked me for more Voltaren the other day. Anyone need any? I have plenty!

-the day it went up to +15 my father decided he should chop away at ice and shovel out all the mushy stuff from the city drain, etc. An hour and a half later (!) he was still at it when my husband came home from work and convinced him to stop. I couldn’t stop him. He loved being out there and I couldn’t take that away from him. I figured if he drops dead from this, he’ll go out happy! He didn’t. It’s all good.

-I’ll let you know how he does blowing up balloons for the Cleo show! And I’ll let you know how the show goes….I’m gonna say great without even having done it yet!! (well, they do indeed sound great and the scenes are very entertaining so yup)
