Well, since I’ve completely given up on AHS at this point (haven’t heard from them for 3 weeks now), I decided to just go ahead and hire someone myself with my own money. ’tis life and ’tis a good use of money.
A lovely gal will now come 3 days a week for 2 hours each time to do things like soak Dad’s feet, go for walks, do his dishes and laundry, work on his jigsaw puzzle with him, learn a few German words from him (!) and do bits of cleaning each time so his place stays continually fresh and clean. Loving it!!
We’re still hoping that AHS actually comes through for us and that we will be allowed to do self directed billing which would mean we can stop using our own money and get at least some amount through AHS to go straight to the company we hope to work with. OOH, maybe they can find Dad someone who speaks German!
Dad is still LOVING his walker. I didn’t have the heart to stop him from going for a walk in all that smoke this week since he really wanted to use his walker. We brought it along to Whyte Ave the other evening and managed to walk easily and quickly from one restaurant (for the main course) to another (for the dessert). Very fun!
He has agreed to sing only the songs that he can do easily (in So Noted) and will listen to the others. We’ll see if this works. I’m taking a suggestion from one of you and have asked him if he would just listen and give me feedback on what he hears for the songs that are a bit much for him. He has agreed! Of course, the challenge is getting him to remember that….come on dementia, help me out here! (nope…today he said again that “with practise” he can learn the fast ones too….sigh…thanks for nothing dementia)
But he’s singing everything in Forte Plus! And I wouldn’t be surprised if he wants to join the Quick Fire Choir….hmmm…..fun or folly?
