Choirs have restarted and since my Dad totally forgot that he had retired and that he had dropped out just prior to our spring show in So Noted last year, he’s singing again. I’m not gonna stop him.
And here comes the wow….not only did he sing pretty much everything during So Noted’s first rehearsal, but he was engaged to the point where he made a comment and then sang a descending scale to demonstrate that the notes were semi-tones during one of our songs. um, wow!
He also went home happy and actually chatted in the car as we drove which he had pretty much stopped doing last year.
But he said “nope” to a CD. He said he’s never needed a CD before and he’s always learned the music from just practising it on his own at home. But I really think if he could just listen to tempos, it might inform him of the 2 or 3 songs that will get away from him a little. hmmm…..apparently, I haven’t totally won against dementia….. yet – HAH!
He’s also loving all his “visitors”. His volunteer person from SASHA and the person we hired. I wonder….does all this social interaction translate into suppressing his dementia? I think maybe yes. He rises for these people and the effect seems to last.
OH and we finally heard from AHS – we are approved (not completely) to use the direct client billing program! Of course, it won’t actually take effect until mid to late October and only if Blue Cross also agrees. So that’s kinda like a win! I’m winning against our health care system….yeah….there’s that bit of crazy. Not even remotely what it should be and yet that is now the norm for many many people. Well, only the lucky people who have a fierce advocate.
He enjoyed the Wed afternoon choir very much but I’m a smidge worried about the fast, “wordy” pieces…. Time will tell.
He’s somehow convinced himself that we are driving to Winnipeg on Friday and then turning right around after a 2 hour visit. I’m trying a white board with the correct information (flying, entire weekend) so we’ll see if that works. Oh and he’s lost his wallet. Good thing I actually have his real ID in my wallet! Of course last time he lost his wallet, a bunch of the stuff he had in it magically reappeared about 6 months later but not the wallet itself. Clever dementia…..
And his lecture series at our local senior centre starts this week too! He’s so busy!! But I think it’s really good. He seems so much better. YAY!
