Here’s a little something I learned this past week…..don’t let your 87 year old father get sick! Not even a little bit. AACK!
All 3 of us suffered from some kind of cold/flu bug this past week and while it seemed to hit me the hardest, I also seemed to recover more completely than my husband or my father.
My Dad’s memory issues seem to have worsened during this time. He doesn’t remember he is sick – per day. He seems more confused and slower than usual to understand what is going on around him.
On the flip side, he did remember to write down that he wanted more Bailey’s Irish Cream! hahaha Yup.
Now I worry about pneumonia. I know that my Dad’s cold can very easily cross into scary territory. But I’m not sure what to do to counter it. He’s not keen on napping during the day.
Never has been keen on that but I’m trying hard to say repeatedly that “sleep is the big cure all”.
I’m giving him those big doses of Vit C in “fizzy water tablet” format.
We’re squirting nasal spray into him in the evenings so he can breathe easily through the night and I’ve taught him (well, I keep teaching him) how to use the neti pot.
His chest sounds congested when he coughs. Anything else I should be doing?
