Here come those final rehearsals! If you are a performer of any variety, this is not the time to get complacent. Final rehearsals may feel like you know everything already and you’re just going through the motions but I urge you to find more. In fact, that is our job as performers – to find more, to elevate and to dig deeper.
In just a few weeks from now on April 22, Forte Plus and Seniors Acting Out Together offer up their old fashioned radio play complete with 14 songs from the 1930s and 1940s. This one is so fun – I guarantee laughter, raised eyebrows and humming along. Come and see for yourself and while you’re there open your wallet for our local food bank.
And then we have “It’s About Time” on May 2 and 3 featuring So Noted Singers, Acting Out Musical Theatre troupe and Cleopatra women’s ensemble. 19 songs total and characters grappling with time and how it affects their final high school reunion in a building that is perhaps about to be forgotten and demolished. Will the building be saved? Will a marriage be saved? Will friendships thrive? Will community and hope rise above “time” and shine? Come and find out while supporting So Noted’s local charity of choice – St Albert Sturgeon Hospice Association.
We’re so lucky as performers to be creating together, to share time and space together and to be a part of something we can offer our community that allows them to simply enjoy and marvel at how easy that seemed for us. Of course, we know that it took some serious rehearsal but we want it to seem easy in the end. And yup, half the enjoyment is in working hard together and producing something of value!
As we drive our dusty city roads, watch all the brown emerge from under the fast melting snow and start in on spring cleaning, we should turn on some music and let it wash away the grime of our everyday lives to reveal something fresh, clean and beautiful as only music can do.
