So Noted Singers & Forte Plus

me, my dad and dementia #26 – phrases my father says…over and over again

didn’t I take them?  I usually take them every morning!  (in reference to us almost every morning reminding Dad to take his morning vitamins/pills)
well, she must be dead.  (in reference to my Dad’s sister who lives in a care home in Winnipeg and likes to visit others in the care facility…a lot.  So she doesn’t always answer her phone when he calls)
will that be finished before I die?  (in reference to pretty much any major construction zone like the LRT or the bridge on the Henday)
I can’t smell anything.  (in reference to us noticing either a lovely or foul smell where ever we happen to be)
You don’t like onions?!  (in reference to us giving him our onions when we go out to a restaurant.  We have never and will never eat onions.  He’s always surprised.  My mother never even cooked with them since my Dad hated them so much and so did she.  Dad started eating them when sharing lunch with Mom in her first care facility…at that point, my Mom didn’t notice the onions anymore)
I haven’t seen our neighbor for years.  (every single time we drive out of our garage and go past our neighbor’s house on the way out of our cul-de-sac and yet, we see her!)
Some of these pieces are very hard Criselda (in reference to either Mon or Wed choir material)
I need to practise them slowly at first (every week since the start of January….in reference to the tougher So Noted pieces)
Oh you don’t have to clean.  I know how to clean.  (and yet, he really rarely does, so thank goodness I clean!)
I can take a bus to Winnipeg.  (this is a newly repeated idea, but he seems kinda hell bent on going to see my Aunt there so I guess I have to figure out how to make it happen but not on a bus!)
Oh I haven’t seen Dr Pol for years.  (in reference to one of his favorite veterinarian TV shows when we find it and turn it on for him and hence he watches it at least once a week)
I slept in today.  I don’t usually do that.  (in reference to us walking into his place around 9:30 or 10:00 to find him just starting to eat his breakfast…which happens a lot)
