So yes, it’s very nice that he wants to and it’s very cool that he still can but….one must be prepared for unexpected mowing in places that don’t require it or should not be mowed at all. We’re in the process of replacing our front lawn with other plants/grasses. ‘nuf said.
And yes, I’m still sneaking into his place to clean it. I think I really need to find a reliable once-a-week person so I don’t have to sneak in and out anymore. It’s working but it’s fraught with peril – HAH! (see how I referenced the upcoming show that he loves?)
My father doesn’t like seeing me clean because a) he believes his place is clean enough (it’s not) and b) he believes he can clean it himself (which he can but he doesn’t actually do). Bit of a pickle for me. So I sneak!
Tomorrow his stand up planter arrives which I hope will be exciting for him and not too challenging. We’ll take him to choose some plants, get some soil and I have tons of seeds here leftover from my daughter and my now daughter-in-law’s shower last spring. We gave away seed packets which was baffling for my father. I don’t think we’ll use them. Perhaps I shall scatter them here and there in my back flower beds and see what happens!
Alrighty, today we bought flowers (and lettuce) together and then planted everything (might be a bit too full) into the stand up planter today! In +31 heat….. So, not my brightest idea for an 87 year old but we both had a lot of fun choosing flowers and digging in the dirt together. We also bought some hanging baskets so he could sit in the backyard and enjoy looking at those plus the stand up planter. So nice!
Dad gets tired more quickly now which I hadn’t really noticed before. I’m not sure if I push him or let him be. At least he’s quite “merry” about pointing it out, so perhaps I let it be. Of course, I did force him to keep up with me at the greenhouse/nursery which he seemed to be quite capable of doing….he was very engaged and happy so he kept up. Yeah, mood matters people.
What a great way to spend an afternoon with my father. We were both very happy with our efforts together.
And now, not once but twice Dad has called us over to look at the flowers “after the rain”. I think we’ll move them slightly over so he can see them from his dining room table where he likes to do his puzzles.
