me, my dad and dementia #38: a mystery…or two…

We can’t quite figure out what Dad is eating for his lunches….

His loaf of bread hasn’t been depleted at all and neither has his container of lettuces nor fresh veggies. So….what exactly is he eating?

My fear? He’s not actually eating lunch. This would explain the lethargy I suppose. I think I need to monitor his lunch time from now on. Yup. I don’t think he’ll totally love that but the only other option is Ensure. He quite likes those and happily eschews food in favor of drinking an Ensure. And they are about 250 calories per container so it’s not exactly small. Lots of sugar unfortunately. The problem with Ensure is I must dole it out sparingly because if I just put a bunch of them in his fridge, he’ll drink them all in one day. I’m gonna say that’s not good.

My Dad’s “full” receptors are long gone. We’ve taken to dishing out his meals and then removing the platter of food from the table completely. Out of sight out of mind. Otherwise, he just keeps taking more. Hey, maybe he needs to eat that much at dinner since he’s not eating his lunch! AHA – 2 mysteries solved!

The biggest mystery is…..did Dad really crawl through his living room window to get into his side of the house the other day?! He went for a walk in the morning and when he came back, he decided we weren’t at home (but we were) and I guess he didn’t have his key. So instead of ringing the door bell or coming up the back deck stairs to see me at my desk, he removed his air conditioner plate/hose from his living room window and crawled through!! What?!?! Well, he’s still impressively agile!
