The podiatrist says we just need to either come to him every 2 weeks to have Dad’s nails trimmed (at $70 a visit) or we take him to get a pedicure every 2 weeks (at $40 a visit) or we do it ourselves (free). And, we need to keep convincing him to soak his feet 2 or 3 times a week. Plus, we need to keep putting special drops on his big toes to soften his nails daily.
Otherwise, he would need his arteries checked to see if he could endure an actual surgery to remove his big toenails completely. EEK. and nope.
OH and now he has corns coming on top/side of both his small pinkie toes….yup! So we are now applying corn pads to those toes daily.
It’s all fun and games here people! But he can now walk pain-free (wait though….read the bottom of this post….) and that’s just huge and wonderful for him and by extension for me too. He loves to walk and so I feel a lot of relief that we might finally have a handle on these toe issues.
My brother arrives tomorrow from Winnipeg with his lovely gal and they will be looking after Dad for 3 nights thus allowing my husband and I to actually go away (with no elevation gain!) for those nights and more (thanks to daughter and daughter-in-law). We’re thrilled and excited!
Yes, I have written detailed lists and will worry slightly but you know me….par for the course…..
Funny story – Last time my bro was here, he and Dad went to WEM for a couple of hours and then came out into the parking lot and couldn’t quite remember where they had parked. Long story short….they ended up sitting in the WRONG car for a while wondering why their key wouldn’t work before realizing they were indeed in the wrong car! Okay, that’s a little funny. And my Dad totally remembers it to this day! Well, almost stealing a car can make a vivid impression apparently!!
We’ll see what kind of fun trouble they get into together this time and then I’ll decide if I tell you all about it or not. HAH!
We did find him sitting at his dining room table this morning with his water merrily boiling away on the stovetop for his porridge. He had forgotten that his stove top was on. It’s a worry.
On a funnier note – we found him eating a lemon yesterday. He wanted to see how sour it really was and ended up having to “get his sugar bowl”. Um, I didn’t even know he had a sugar bowl!
Dang, his other foot -big toe- is now hurting so we’re off to see the podiatrist yet again….it’s only been a week since the last visit….maybe we could get a punch card for a discount….
