So Noted Singers & Forte Plus

me, my dad and dementia #64: he’s so tired this week…

My Dad said again that the choirs are his life line. He has been waiting eagerly to get going to rehearsals. He’s had the music for a while but what he really loves is the actual rehearsal. Cool!

He enjoyed Monday….but came away from it troubled by the fact that he didn’t remember much of the “old” music and couldn’t just sight read the “new” music perfectly. So, in typical Eric-like fashion, he vowed to have absolutely everything learned for next week. Extreme you ask? Indeed! But that’s my Dad. I have a slight extreme streak too….apple/tree.

I chatted with him on Tuesday and reminded him that he used to practise like crazy to do the recordings in order to nail everything cleanly while I would just “wing it” and then have to cut into certain parts of the vocal tracks and re-record as a result. He did remember that or at least said he did so maybe he can go easy on himself now.

He was very tired on Tuesday but we did a full 2 hours on Monday night. I’m hoping once we go back to our hour and 45 minutes next week, he’ll be just fine. Plus, we looked at all 15 songs last night (and some of them are tough) and we’ll only be practising 7 or 8 per rehearsal.

He read well! We have 17 readers involved in this spring show for the Monday night choir and I randomly handed out the scripts to folks, so my Dad ended up as “person 3” and did it really well. Nice!

But he’s been really tired every day since the Monday night rehearsal. He squints since he’s so tired. Maybe I need to give him a full pill of mirtazapine instead of half a pill at night. Or is that counter productive? hmmm…. I’ll think on it…

In the meantime, he’s really looking forward to all the folk songs and folk tales next Wednesday afternoon. Me too!
