So Noted Singers & Forte Plus

me, my dad and dementia #75: he loved it!

He sang along to Somewhere and it made him misty eyed and my lovely daughter-in-law gave him a hug and a squeeze. And he LOVED Wannabe! I am not kidding!! Sublime to ridiculous? (check out Post Modern Jukebox – that’s the swing arrangement we did!)

And since he blew up most of the balloons for the show, I let him pop them all at the end! I think he kinda enjoyed that….

Some days he forgets how to make his porridge and or his coffee in the morning. It’s tricky to help him so that we don’t point out that he’s forgetting.

He often forgets his morning vitamins now but when we remind him to take them he almost always says “oh I usually do that with my breakfast”….but of course, he doesn’t.

Here’s a question….why would he remove most of his So Noted music from his binder and take off all the tabs that marked each song? It came as a bit of a surprise on Monday when, my husband discovered that my father’s binder was quite light and missing most of the music. We found it at his place later that evening but…..why?

He said “maybe I shouldn’t sing anymore”. No, he wasn’t saying it like he said it last year which was more like “I want to quit”. So I asked him if he still enjoyed choir and he said “oh yes, definitely” and I said “then keep singing Dad”. My husband says that my Dad does now sing some iffy notes once in a while but otherwise, he’s mostly doing all of it correctly.

Our helper for Dad brought him ice cream the other day! How sweet!! And yes, he loved it. We don’t really put it in his deep freeze anymore since he tends to eat it all in one or two days (we dole it out now) but we’re making an exception here.

He did really well at Forte Plus on Wednesday. He stood up early for his scenes! um….what?!?! And yes, we brought the right binder and yes, he had left all the music in it and in the right order so YAY!

I’ve started writing the big Christmas show. And it’s huge! 15+ actors, 15+ readers, all 3 choirs, more instruments, etc etc. Very cool! But will my Dad still be able to do a readers theatre part in it? I don’t know.

For now, I’m just happy that he’s happy.
